Patchology SmartMud No Mess Mud Masque Review

I talked briefly about the innovative *Patchology SmartMud sheet masks here, but i love them so much i decided that they deserved their very own blogpost. Patchology has somehow managed to combine two of the most popular face masks into one: A mud mask and a sheet mask! I have not heard of any other companies that have incorporated mud into their sheet mask collections. It’s honestly genius, and i don’t know why a bigger more well known brand hadn’t already thought of the idea. Good on you Patchology for being so innovative!

The *Patchology SmartMud No Mess Mud Masque offers an innovative take on the traditional mud mask. No more dipping your finger or brush into a pot and messily applying all over your face. The Patchology Smartmud mask is inspired by Korean sheet masks, but instead of being soaked in a hydrating serum or ampoule for hydrating, it’s covered in a mud solution (Korean jeju volcanic ash, bentonite clay and kaolin) to help to remove impurities, detoxify and tighten pores. You get all the benefits of a mud mask but without the messy sink to clean up, tightness and mud flaking off everywhere. Whats not to like?

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Inositol, Trehalose, Taurine, Phenoxyethanol, Betaine, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Hydrolyzed Pea Protein, Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract, Peucedanum Ostruthium Leaf Extract, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Glyceryl Caprylate, Xanthan Gum, Arginine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ethylhexyglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Fragrance (Parfum).

The actual sheet mask comes in two parts, one for the top half of your face and another for the bottom half. Which is brilliant as it will fit many different face shapes (you will see in the photos below that is conforms to the face pretty well). Application is somewhat tricky at first as the mask comes in between 2 plastic sheets, a white one and a clear one. You start by peeling off the white plastic film first and apply the soaked mud-mask side directly onto your skin. Once its positioned where you like, simply peel off the clear film layer. Sounds simple right? Not quite, attempting to do this is very fidgety as the mask moves out of place. However the sheet mask itself is very thin and malleable so its easy to work with moving back into position, it just means your hands get a little messy (and if your like me your clothing also lol, I’m a little clumsy). The material of the mask itself reminds me of wet gauze, that’s used on body casts (when you break a bone) and the scent of the mud is truly delightful with it’s soft floral and herbal mixed scent. It literally smells refreshing like a spa.

Simply leave on your skin for around 10 minutes or until it dries. You will feel a very slight tingle sensation, nothing extreme or at all irritating just means it’s working it’s magic. It honestly feels incredible on the skin, very cooling. I noticed once it dried it was impossible to move the bottom half of my face (no talking for me, eeek) and my son though it was hilarious that i looked like his scary Halloween mask (thank you son, i can always count on you for brutal honesty lol). After about 10 minutes just peel off. It removes easily without any tugging, and you will notice hardly any product is left sitting on your skin to remove. Simply rinse what little remainder of mud there is left with clean warm water. You will notice immediate difference after using this mask. I find that i look less oily as it helps to balance my sebum production, my pores most definitely looked more minimized and my skin genuinely looks balanced, purified and clear. I also find that it helps bring any blackheads on my nose to the surface, which are then more manageable to extract. Every time i use this mask i am very pleased. Usually sensitive to mud masks (i experience breakouts and have even experienced allergic burns) this has been a gem of a product to use. Every mud mask will dry your skin out to some extent as it’s their purpose, but i find a good mud masks balances not strips, and this mask falls into that category. I always follow up a face mask with hydrating products, as hydrated skin equals youthful-looking skin. I pull out one of these Mud sheet masks when i feel my skin needs a little extra purifying. I don’t see the need to over mask each week, i always go by how my skin feels and what it needs at that time. I will continue to repurchase these masks.

Patchology SmartMud No Mess Mud Masque

So if you are after a convenient mud mask that will be cooling on the skin, help clean out your pores and leave you face deeply cleansed without feeling stripped or or dried out, then i highly recommend investing in these. Especially as they wont break the bank at £24 for 2 months worth of product (4 masks), i personally feel that its affordable. If you are someone who just loves trying out sheet masks but also enjoys a mud mask, you would enjoy this also. I cannot wait to try out more masks from this brand and i must say that i am intrigued by the Flashmasque Illuminate 5 minute Facial sheet which i hope to try out next. Anything that claims to brighten the skin i am all over like a kid in a candy shop. I do hope that Patchology will have a British stockist one day, so that these masks will be easier to get for us Brits.

Cruelty Free/Tested on Animals? Unsure cannot find any claims on their website.
