    Real Barrier Cicarelief Cream Review

Back in April a British K beauty retailer called Skinsider kindly sent me the Real Barrier Cicarelief Cream to try out after I mentioned about my seborrheic dermatitis being at its worse on my Instagram. Cica products are popular in Korea as the ingredients are mild yet effective for acne-prone and sensitive skin types. Korean skincare brands tend to be more attracted to mild and natural ingredients that work for even the most sensitive of skins. I had already tried the Innisfree Bija Cica Balm and the By Wishtrend Teca 1% Barrier cream, and though both are lovely and work especially well on makeup days, I just find they act more like a silicone barrier and don’t hydrate my skin as much as I would like.

As someone with oily combination skin that changes with the seasons having products that moisturize is incredibly important towards helping to balance out my skin while also keeping it looking youthful. No smoothing product was going to hide the fact that I had lots of uneven skin texture. I needed a product that could smooth out texture but also soothe and hydrate at the same time.

9 out of 10 moisturizers don’t work for my skin! So, when I recommend or rave about a cream you know its good! Especially for anyone else who has easily congested, sensitive, reactive combination skin. Far too many creams suffocate my skin or have ingredients that suck the moisture out of my dry areas but help my oily areas. It’s hard to find a cream that works well for both my oily and dry skin parts. Though I could use 2 different moisturizers, it’s not cost effective or practical for my busy lifestyle. A barrier cream should always be richer in texture than a traditional face cream so that it not only helps to moisten the skin but also lock moisture in and help repair a weakened skin barrier.

Real Barrier Cicarelief Cream 35g/1.2oz £22/$23

The Real Barrier Cicarelief cream is a soothing cream formulated with high concentrations of Panthenol, Calamine, and Madecassoside to help promote skin recovery. It also contains Hyaluronic Acid, Squalane, allantoin and vitamin E to help add hydration, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits.  The brand also uses a globally patented technology called MLE (Multi-Lamellar Emulsion), which was specially developed to combat the problem of weakened skin barriers. The MLE repairs the skin barrier protecting the skin by keeping allergens and microbes out. It has a unique creamy emollient texture, it reminds me of oily ointment creams you get for diaper rash. Despite being oily, the oiliness subsides as it absorbs into the skin and acts as a silky smooth comforting blanket leaving the skin looking and feeling super smooth. It really does a wonderful job of providing moisture while soothing but also locking it in.

Directions: Use AM or PM after cleansing. Gently apply to irritated areas of the face or body until completely absorbed. Apply a thick layer to areas that need extra attention.

I started incorporating the Real Barrier Cicarelief Cream into my morning routine daily, and after just 3 days I had already noticed a difference. The Dermatitis around my nose didn’t look as red or sore. But the biggest change was after 2 weeks of applying it daily my dermatitis had almost completely disappeared with zero flaky skin texture in sight. I honestly couldn’t believe it, after a year of dealing with the inflamed skin monster, the protective product of my dreams had finally come into my life! My confidence in my skin grew dramatically and I started leaving the house with no makeup on. No longer feeling anxious when nosy people would ask whats that on my face. A damaged skin barrier not only means that you have dry, flaky, dehydrated skin no matter how much moisturizer you put on your face, but it also means that your skin is more prone to infections and irritation – hence red, itchy inflamed bumps and texture and my dermatitis.

It is now June and I probably reach for the Real Barrier Cicarelief cream maybe a few days a month if needed, usually around my time of the month when my hormones will flare my dermatitis up a little. It also acts well over an active breakout, which I use over the top of the Cosrx Centella Cream. What makes the Real Barrier Cicarelief cream unique is that not only does it immediately resolve itchy skin and bumps, it restores the skin barrier preventing it from coming back. I have since overhauled my life becoming more healthy, working out 6 days a week and only eating fresh and grown foods. My skin is at its all-time best and it is most definitely down to my clean diet and products like this. The Real Barrier Extreme cream is on my radar to try out next.

The Real Barrier Cicarelief Cream is a must-have for anyone with a compromised or damaged skin barrier!
